What Is Epoxy Resin?

Epoxy resin is a two-part system consisting of:

1. Epoxy Resin
2. Hardener

When stored separately, both components typically have a shelf life of 12 months or longer under proper storage conditions.

Once the resin and hardener are mixed together, a chemical reaction begins that gradually cures the liquid into a hard, durable, glossy protective coating. Epoxy resin is widely used for coatings, artwork, tabletops, casting, flooring, and glow-in-the-dark projects.

Most epoxy systems have a working time (pot life) of around 20–40 minutes after mixing, depending on temperature and formulation. During this period, the resin should be applied before it starts thickening and hardening.

Initial curing usually takes 12–24 hours, while full hardness and maximum strength may take several days depending on the epoxy type and environmental conditions.
