Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is essential for maximum adhesion and glow performance.

Concrete

  • Remove dust and loose particles.
  • Allow new concrete to cure completely.
  • Repair cracks and defects.
  • Prime using a white oil-based primer.

Wood

  • Sand smooth.
  • Remove dust.
  • Prime with a white oil-based primer.

Metal

  • Remove rust, oil and grease.
  • Apply a suitable anti-corrosion primer followed by a white undercoat if required.

Previously Painted Surfaces

  • Remove loose or peeling paint.
  • Sand glossy finishes.
  • Ensure compatibility with the existing coating.

Primer Recommendation

Maximum glow performance is achieved over a clean white reflective primer.

SurfaceRecommended Primer
ConcreteWhite Oil-Based Primer
TimberWhite Oil-Based Primer
MetalWhite Anti-Corrosion Primer
Existing PaintWhite Compatible Undercoat

A white primer reflects more light back through the glow layer, significantly increasing brightness and glow duration.

Application Instructions

  • Stir thoroughly before use.
  • Apply only to clean, dry surfaces.
  • Apply evenly using brush, roller or spray equipment.
  • Avoid application during rain or excessive humidity.
  • Do not apply below 10°C.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation.

Drying times may vary depending on temperature, humidity and film thickness.

Coverage

Typical coverage is:

Surface TypeCoverage per Litre (Per Coat)
Smooth White Surface5–7 m²
Painted Surface4–6 m²
Rough Concrete3–5 m²

Actual coverage depends on:

  • Surface porosity
  • Surface texture
  • Application method
  • Film thickness
  • Number of coats

For detailed calculations, refer to the Glow in the Dark Paint Coverage Guide.

Storage

  • Store between 5°C and 30°C.
  • Keep container tightly sealed.
  • Protect from moisture.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Store in the original unopened container.

Health & Safety

  • Flammable liquid.
  • Use only with adequate ventilation.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact.
  • Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
  • Keep away from heat, sparks and open flames.
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

Limitations

  • Glow performance depends on the amount of light absorbed.
  • White primer is strongly recommended.
  • Dark coloured substrates reduce brightness.
  • Not recommended for permanent water immersion.
  • Outdoor applications should be protected with a compatible UV-resistant clear coat.
  • Always perform a small test area before full application.
